the berrison adventure life

Flash back: The honeymoon around the world. Part 2 – Amsterdam

A little less adventure, same amount of beer.

We only had about 2 days in Amsterdam so the adventuring was limited to mostly the the Centrum or city center.

We arrived on a rainy day and had a little adventure trying to locate the hotel. Once that crisis was averted we roamed the streets of Amsterdam and ducked into the first little pub, as we do, we found to escape the rain. No idea the name of the pub or the beers we had but it was perfect. Just a tiny place with maybe a dozen tables, friendly people, friendly bar staff and strong Dutch beer.

On the way back to the hotel we were in search of poffertjes for dessert, but couldn’t find any. Waffles would have to do!

Always in need of a coffee we stopped in at cafe, however cafe’s in Amsterdam are not for coffee…noobs. We enter are greeted with a haze and a smell not unlike downtown Toronto now. We ask for 2 to coffees to go and get a look like we asked the guy to do long division. After some searching the guy finds some to go cups. A free contact high and about 15 minutes later we have our coffee and a learning experience.

To maximize our limited time we jumped on a hop-on hop-off canal boat tour. A neat way to see the city.

We decided to jumped off in the Jordaan district. Not far from the city center, narrow streets give way to canals, and there are plenty of quaint shops and boutiques, as well as cafes, restaurants and bars. However the real highlight was the cheese museum!

After sampling our fill and picking up some delightful Beemster cheese we found another one of the Jordaans many bars to sample.

We didn’t get to spend a long time in Amsterdam, but the time we did spend was great. The people were very friendly, and we just generally had a really good time.

It is on our list of places to go back to.

Next stop Brussels!
