Last night was annoying. Sleeping peacefully, at 11:30 we hear some commotion and realize people are setting up camp beside us (not a problem at all, it is a campsite after all). The problem was them constantly opening and shutting their car doors until about 2:15 am. Note to other campers: don’t be assholes. If you role into a campsite late, be mindful of other people. There is absolutely NO reason to keep shutting your car doors. Just keep them open until you are done so you only shut them once. And if it takes you 2.5 hours to set up a tent, maybe you should try a hotel or guesthouse instead. End rant, moving on.
We woke up early to try to beat the crowds to svellaugaug. A note about some of the cooler places in Iceland, the roads to them generally are in terrible shape, this one was no exception. After finally making it down the most crater filled road of my life, we came to a small “parking lot”. There were a couple cars already so we knew we were in the right spot. This is a “secret” lagoon which is not so secret anymore. Once you park, it’s about a 20 minute walk to find the pool. It was neat, but not maintained. If you are squeamish of algae and dirt, skip this one. The water itself was more luke warm than hot, regardless we got in. Had a little swim and left.

We hit up Skogafoss after this. We went there the first time we were in Iceland (December 2015). It was much busier this time around (probably due to the sunlight haha).

We have officially circled Iceland at this point. We decided to head into Þingvellir National Park to find the Bloody Gate in the Eyrie (Game of Thrones fans will understand). Success. Side note, always get a 4×4 vehicle here. We didn’t so weren’t allowed to take the most direct route in and had to circle around.

On to Geysir! It was neat. The rules are hilarious. Proud to say we didn’t break any.

Icelanders love their ice cream. It was supposed to be really good, so I had to try. I can confirm, it is delicious.

We got to our camp site 35 minutes before it opened, so we drove down the road to Gulfoss. It was impressive.

We chose our camp site tonight away from highway 1. The last two nights were right on the main road, so the campsites were pretty busy. This one is so nice and quiet. Plus, it has a bar. Skjol, you win.

Just love the pictures and play by play!
