the berrison adventure life

Iceland, day 3: Husavik and Raufarhofn

We woke up early this morning to have a quick breakfast and coffee before hitting the road. Last night we decided that we would go whale watching today. I hastily booked a trip online without checking to see where the boat departed from and ended up booking a tour 1.5 hours away, instead of the one that was only 20 minutes away (oops). But as we have no set plans or time schedule, it wasn’t a big problem.

The drive was beautiful.

We hadn’t planned on going to Husavik, but it all worked out because, whales.

Bucket list checked. We saw three different humpback whales. It was very cool.

There was a little fish and chip place on the pier so we stopped for lunch. It was legit.

Tip for food saving cost, split meals. We shared this one and it was definitely enough for two people

We decided on the boat that we were going to forgo our original “plan” for travel and took off North to Raufarhofn.

As we were driving, a pretty spectacular wall seemed to come out of no where. We made a sharp turn to go check it out.
Asbyrgi is part of Vatnajokill national park. The sagas claim the rock formation was made by one of the hooves of Odin’s 8-legged horse.

We continued on to Arctic henge. It was pretty neat, but was very rainy and grey so couldn’t take in the proper views with the sun.

We were going to set up camp in Raufarhofn, but it was still early so we continued on off plan and ended up in Kopasker. Turns out the campground closed on September 1 (it was September 2 haha). We parked in the parking lot, made some dinner and decided since it was raining, and still early we would just go until we found another campsite.

It’s not all gourmet. Sometimes you just heat a can of beans and cut up some hot dogs.

We ended up back at Asbyrgi for the night 🙂

For the record, Greg won that game.

Skal!

Sometimes relaxing, other times, not so much. We end each day with a beer regardless 🙂
